Welcome to smartMedia’s documentation!

smartMedia is a fully customizable multi threaded media converter, ingestion and delivery tool that runs standalone and inside Nuke. It lets you convert image and video based media from one format into another. SmartMedia uses Nuke under the hood to convert your media. Due to Nuke’s node based workflow this mean absolute control for your media conversions and due to that smartMedia goes way beyond a traditional media encoder. Think of it as a tool that solves the following:

  • I want to convert my video sources into image sequences and vice versa.
  • I want to convert my video sources into different video formats.
  • I want to convert my image sequences into different image sequence formats.
  • I want to apply slate and burnin information to my renderings.
  • I want to create full deliveries containing many outputs to my client in an easy way.
  • I want to trigger custom code before or after rendering in order to update. my database, get a spread sheet automatically written, and much more.

smartMedia provides a rich preset system that you can fully customize to your needs. You can quickly create new presets with minimal effort using our preset creation wizard and further define it to your needs afterwards if needed. Presets can then be applied to multiple sources in one go to batch create the needed outputs for your projects including custom slates and burnins.

smartMedia is customizable in many details and provides a variety of settings that you can adjust to your needs. And if you have some Python knowledge you can take over full control and trigger any additional logic on various events and run custom functions on any selected task.

smartMedia can be run standalone and inside Nuke and is python-3 and python-2 compatible.
